Membership in the church is to be taken seriously. By gaining membership in the local church, a person is committing to worship alongside and serve with others in the church but also to be in an accountability relationship with the church. In order to preserve the witness of the church and to have true unity, the membership of the church must be limited to those who are members of the universal church. I believe that it is also the responsibility of the church to discipline errant members and to remove from membership those who continue in sin.
