Last Sunday Living Hope Church presented me as the candidate for their new Associate Pastor position. I will be candidating there during the next two weeks and after church on May 3rd they will vote on bringing me on staff.
It has been an interesting road leading up to candidating at the church that I am currently attending. It started with the elder board proposing a 3/4 time position, which was not at all what I was looking for and which I wouldn't have applied for. When the position was announced to the congregation, they amended the position to full time, saying that they would gladly increase their giving if it meant getting a better person for the job and taking better care of whoever was hired.
At that same meeting, one of the people in the church put forward my name asking why I couldn't just be brought on staff, being a seminary grad heading into ministry, if we were looking for someone full time. The elders wisely decided to still do a search process and I decided to apply.
Greg Fell, the district superintendent, recommended that the elders first make a decision on anyone inside the church before moving on to a real external search. So the elders gathered other resumes and did a match on MinisterConnection so they could compare me to what resumes were out there and see if I would be a good candidate.
So the elders talked with Greg and, after a good amount of analysis on the MinisterConnection profiles and the resumes that they found, saw that I would be a good fit for the congregation, at least on paper. The next step was to determine if I would really fit with the church.
